Ajo Historical Society Notes

Dear friends and Ajo Historical Society members,
We are going to try to keep the Ajo Museum open until the end of May. There will be a board meeting and the annual audit of the Ajo Historical Society on Tuesday, June 7th at 6pm at the Ajo Museum. Both events will be open to all.

If you have any old issues of the Ajo Copper News, especially those of the 1970’s and late 1960’s, the Ajo Museum can use them for its library and research. Duplicates may be used to cut out articles of interest.

We have 80% of the Ajo High School annuals dating back to 1937. Missing volumes include 1969, most of the 1980’s and 2002. If you wish to donate an annual to the museum’s library please contact me. I will double check to see if we have it or if it will help complete the collection. Send an email to and it will be forwarded to me.
The museum library has over 3000 obituaries, copies of death certificates, photos and other items pertaining to those people who in some way were connected to Ajo and the surrounding area. Those interested in family research etc will find it a treasure trove of data. The museum does not have a copier but many visitors using the research material have found that their cameras provide a convenient way of recording information. I have a large file of vital birth and death dates here on my home computer of Ajo connected people. It is very easy for me to pull up that data and transmit it by email. I would be happy to help out Ajo Historical Society members in this way.
Hoping that you will pay your museum a visit before the end of the season. I anticipate that it will be open again in late October.
Sincerely yours,
G Louie Walters, President Ajo Historical Society & volunteer curator Ajo Museum
