Museum opened for the season!

The Ajo Museum is open for the winter visitors season. Curator Louie Walters says that while the museum is open most days from noon to 4 p.m., it will be closed for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. An all-volunteer operation, the docents have welcomed over one hundred visitors this past month including a Russian and an English couple. While there is no set entrance fee, Walters said donations to offset the ongoing costs are welcome. The repair work necessitated by last year’s storms has been nearly completed by Rick Shumway, Mike MacFarlane and others, according to Walters. “If you have not been at the museum for a while you will be pleasantly surprised at the improvements” he said.

The museum is located within old Saint Catherine’s Indian Mission a quarter mile to the west of the mine overlook.
