November 11, 2014 Board Meeting Minutes

The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m.

ROLL CALL: Present - Dee & Bob Hightower, Mike Mason, Tom Reese, Louie & Paulette Walters. Absent - Jose’ Castillo, Lito Castillo, & Andy Kearney.

Secretary: Paulette read the minutes of the board meeting & audit held on 6/3/14 & emergency board meeting minutes of October 17; all minutes were approved as read.

Treasurer’s Report: Dee Hightower’s report below & accepted subject to audit.

Previous Balance: $20,416.95 (includes $2,404.19 roofing fund)

Officer Reports:

President/Curator Louie Walters: President Louie reported the Ajo Museum was open 18 days from 10/8/14 – 11/9/14; 88 visitors this season. Donations from visitors $170.76.

Volunteer Guides days as of 11/9/13:

  • Jose’ Castillo 3
  • Louie Walters 18

Bob & Dee Hightower, Paulette & Louie Walters worked hard three days in a row moving exhibits and otherwise cleaning up after the September 27th storm damage. Paulette collected roofing fund donations at Plaza on October 24th. Will be a couple more weeks until the roofing is completed.

Vice-President Mike Mason – none.

Committee Reports:

  1. Fund Raising – letters & articles; donations received; thank you’s/receipts sent.
  2. Building committee – museum open 7:30 a.m. weekdays for workers.
  3. Publicity – newspaper articles; Ajo Copper News very supportive.
  4. Library – over 2850 obituaries & 80% of all Ajo High School yearbooks.
  5. Donated items – large early photo of mill & crusher from Bill Price family; Anna Reynolds donated a 2nd Edition of Ajo The Desert Speaks.
  6. Ajo Garden Club members June & Bob Nichols inspected drip system.

Old Business: roof work is ongoing.

New Business:

  1. Andy Kearney moved to California; discussion; tabled.
  2. Liability insurance discussion; tabled.
  3. Shortage of volunteer guides; more help needed.
  4. No applications.
